The ‘Lamb’ of Christmas… The Lamb of God…Past, Present, Future
At the Creation Museum in Petersbug, KY…..The following naration was provided by a woman acting the part of Mary, the mother of Jesus as
she talks about the Jewish sacrificial system. Mary says (in a passionate way):
Our sacrifice always had to be perfect—God required it. I have memories as a little girl, when my family would pick our best lamb from the flock. The priest took his knife and … . It always broke my heart, but my parents insisted that all of us were there. They wanted to make sure we each understood how terrible sin is, and just how much it costs to cover it … [In the video, you’ll see Mary and her family watching this beautiful animal—and they see the priest’s knife. The priest holds the lamb up above the altar, and you really sense what Mary and her family must have sensed and experienced as the event broke their hearts.]
One day, after I was engaged to Joseph, I was visited by an angel of God. He told me not to be afraid, and that I was to give birth to a child, and that I should call him Jesus.
I asked how this could be, since I was still a virgin. The angel told me the power of the Most High would overshadow me, and my son would be called the Son of God. Of course, one day I learned that my son would be called something else as well—a lamb.
The Lamb – Past
Revelations 13:8 NIV John wrote “All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast – all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.”
1 Peter 18-20 NIV Peter wrote “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the preicious blod of Christ, a lamb with blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.”
The Lamb – Present
John 1:29 NIV John wrote “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
1 Corinthians 5:7 NIV Paul wrote “For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.”
Hebrews 10:1 NIV Paul wrote “And by the will of God, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jeus Christ once for all.”
The Lamb – Future
Revelations 7:7-10 NIV John wrote “After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.”
Revelations 19:6-9 John wrote “Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almight reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come and his bride has made herself ready. Fine line, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) Then the angelsaid to me, Wriote: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”
My friends…in this Christmas season…2017 years after the birth of our Savior…our Lamb…I pray that more than ever you will see what God has given us in His son, Jesus Christ, our sacraficial Lamb. Your gift this Christmas season is to ‘know’ that before the world was created…God knew you, called you, and placed you safely in the eternal keeping of His Lamb. The Lamb of God is our ‘forever’ Lamb. He always was, He always is, He always will be, ‘your’ best gift of all times and all seasons. He has you name written in His Book of Life and he has sent you an invitation to come to a dinner to be held in His honor…. So…celebrate Him..Jesus…your forever Lamb. And ‘go’…go out and share the story of ‘your’ forever Lamb. Amen
