(Monday-Friday, from my morning quiet time, I will write a short thought for that day which I pray God will use to motivate you to ‘GO’ for that day.  Your objective is simple…to GO…to GO OUT and share the love of Christ with someone in that day….to GO and bear fruit …to be light to the world.)

Has, Have, and Had  (remember all the past, present, future..and simple and perfect jargon related to proper use of grammar?… ugghh!)

English Grammar 101  (dialogue from a popular English Grammar online ‘help’ site.. Diana the grammar expert responding to Nick…)

I always have problems thinking about the use of has, have, had in a sentence. Could you please help me with this? Thanks – Nick

Hi Nick. The difference is in terms of tense and subject.

First, you have to make sure that you understand the tense that you are using. For example; If you use has alone it is referring to the “third person” and saying that that person possesses something.
(She has a beautiful car.)

When we use have we are either talking about ourselves or the general idea of possessing something
(I have a great husband. It would be nice to have a bigger house).

Had on the other hand is referring to something that was possessed in the past…but not now.
(I had a good job…but now I don’t).

Generally speaking the only difference is the time frame or tense that you need to use and also who is being referred to.

Now…move to:   Eternal Theological Truth 101

1 John 5:11-12   The Apostle John wrote “And this is the testimony:  God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He who hasthe Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

say it with me… he who HAS the SON HAS life…..he who HAS the Son HAS life.  Got it?   YOU/WE the third person…we possess somebody…not some ‘thing’.   We possess the Son of God…and more wonderfully…He HAS/possesses us.

So..in this fine day..another day….’Go’ out and tell those who do not possess the Son and thus do not have eternal life…go tell them how they can possess the Son 😊  Amen

Today’s Daily Light

More and More….
1 Thessalonians 4:1-12, Paul wrote
“brothers (and sisters 😊) we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living.
Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more
For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.  (wow…Paul reminds us that what he has to say to us came from, is totally inspired by, what he received direct from Jesus…point being….this is direct from the top…this is not optional information…this is the best what-and-how-to live to please God information we can get).
It is God’s will that you should be sanctified.;  that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God;   and that in this same matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him.  The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you.
For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
Now…about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.  And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia.  Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more
Make it you ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.”

Lord…help us to love your words, will, and way, more and more.   I thank you that you gave us your Spirit to live inside us and give us that continual help and strength to seek your will and ways more and more.  So I pray according to what you say in your words through Paul…help us to seek a mindset of urgency to live a life that pleases You..more and more.  We know we can only do this through your grace, power, and strength…and in Your name.  Amen

Today’s Daily Light
Faith, Hope, and Love

In reading the caption above, faith, hope, and love…it is natural to correlate these three words to a passage from the letter the apostle Paul wrote to the ‘church/believers’ in the city of Corinth.  1 Corinthians, chapter 13…often referred to as the ‘love’ chapter and in contemporary times is often used in weddings as poetic picture of what the couple-to-be hopes that their love type will be.  As my son and his friends would say.. “it is all good.” 😊

In the context of the letter…the theme of the letter to the church at Corinth…Paul is addressing serious issues in moral issues, and divisions and conflict among believers….and he seeks to call them to a higher standard of Christ like living and to the high standard of which the Body of Christ must be in unity ‘so that’ the ‘body’ is healthy and functions as it was intended to function ‘so that’ the world can see Christ in his people…in the life of the church.   So Paul reiterates to them that they are all a part of the body of Christ and they must understand that each has a different part and place and function and they must accept each other and learn to work in harmony so that they do not suffer and so that they can honor each other and thus rejoice.   And he says the way…the spirit in which to do this…the power in which to do this…comes through faith, hope, and love and the greatest of these is love.

Paul later writes another letter to the church/believers who live in Thessalonica.  The circumstances, context, and theme are different.  They are a church that is thriving while enduring persecution and his letter is to encourage them and to also remind them of the coming of the Lord.   In chapter 1 of 1st Thessalonians, Paul writes “We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.  We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”

He says ‘you work produced by faith…your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope… in our Lord Jesus Christ.’

Faith, hope, and love…are the ‘better way’…the body-building tools….that the Lord Jesus Christ gives to empower us to endure and grow and produce kingdom fruit.
So today I pray for that our work will produced by faith….that we will be prompted by our love for others to labor for the kingdom….and that we will allow our hope in Jesus to cause us to endure and press on toward the goal…which is p314…as stated above.    Amen

The Way ‘to’ Live…The Way ‘not’ to Live
Colossians 3:1-17  Paul writes to us
(Way ‘to’ Live 1-4:  Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

(Way ‘not to’ live)  5-9.5   Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:  sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.  Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.  You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.  But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these:  anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.  Do not lie to each other since you have taken off your old self with its practices and
(Way ‘to’ live)  9.5 -10   have put on the new self, which is being renewed in the knowledge in the image of its Creator.
12-17  Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and early loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against on another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts , since as members of one body you were called to peace.
And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Lord…help us to meditate on this teaching from Paul today…let it permeate down into our spirit man so that we can be empowered in our mind..’so that’ we can have continued motivation to encourage others and to share the gospel with those who are in darkness.   Amen

Today’s Daily Light

Know the King…See Him Seated on High as He Reigns….See What We have ‘in’ Him…

Ephesians 1:18 NIV   Paul wrote “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches, of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for who believe.

(From Charles Ellicott’s Commentary):  The heart is similarly spoken of in relation to spiritual perception in Romans 1:211Corinthians 2:91Corinthians 4:5; it signifies the inner man in his entirety; and the phrase here used seems to convey the all-important truth, that for the knowledge of God all the faculties of understanding, conscience, and affection must be called into energy by the gift of the light of God.

Paul goes on to say in verses 19-22… “That power is like the working of his might strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.   And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”

We belong to an unshakeable kingdom that is eternal.  We serve a King who is unchanging.  We are His and He is ours.   All of this is the work of God the Father who calls us to the cross and reconciles us to Himself through the shed blood of His Son.  The ‘work’ of God is a gift to us…given to us to demonstrate His great love for us.  See it…let ‘seeing’ it impact your ‘heart’…which is your understanding, conscience, and the seat of your affections.   Be energized by ‘seeing’ that you are His and He is yours.   Go out and share this good news with someone today.   Amen

The Reign of the King…

His Kingdom is a ‘forever’ Kingdom….

We are secure ‘in’ Him..

Luke 1:32-33 NIV  The angel Gabriel said to Mary… “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.  The Lord God will give Him the throne of his father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; His kingdom will never end.”   (also see Isaiah 9).

John 14:15-18 NIV   Jesus says that He will send us the Holy Spirit to be with us and ‘in’ us….”If you love Me, you will obey what I command.  And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth.  The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him.  But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be ‘in’ you.”

1 John 4:13 NIV  John tells us “We know that we live in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.”

Father…I thank you that we can ‘know’ YOU now.  I thank you that we can experience Your presence each moment and day of our life, ‘now’.   We can do this because You have given us Your Spirit to live inside us ‘so that’ Your Spirit can witness to our spirit that we are Yours and we belong to the eternal kingdom of Your Son, King Jesus.   Help us to cherish this reality…there is nothing more precious for us to ‘know’ than is for us to ‘know’ we are ‘in’ Christ.  Amen

The Reign of the King…He is Supreme….and He Lives in You 😊
Colossians 9-14 NIV, Paul writes
Read this short delicious morsel a couple of times today…to let it soak down into your spirit man…it is sooooo good…better than the pecan pie you will have in 2 days 😊
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.  And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might ‘so that’ you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.  For  He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in who we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Wow…we have been rescued by the love of God and brought into the kingdom of King Jesus…which is an unshakeable kingdom with an unchanging King.  We are ‘in’ Christ… ‘so that’…we can bear fruit…continue growing in the knowledge of God…’so that’ we can live a life worthy of what we have inherited in Christ …’so that’ we can please Him/God in every way.

Today’s Daily Light

The Reign of the King…  it is ‘within’ you.

Luke 17:20,21 NIV    Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied.  “The Kingdom of God does not come with our careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,” because the kingdom of God is within you.”

John 3:1-7 NIV Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council.  He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God.  For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.” In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”      How can a man be born when he is old  Nicodemus asked.  “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!”  Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth no once can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.  You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘you must be born again.’

Colossians 1:24-27 NIV    Paul writes “I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.  I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness — the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints.  To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles, the glorious riches of the mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

When we come to the cross of Christ and ‘repent’….God responds and forgives and accepts us into His eternal family.   The Spirit of God/Jesus, the Holy Spirit, then comes to live inside our spirit to give us ‘new’ birth…’so that’ we can become partakers of His eternal kingdom and become empowered to be ambassadors for the King.  New birth through the power of the Spirit is what let’s us ‘see’ and ‘know’ that we are His..that we are safe in Him…sharing with Him ‘now’ in His eternal Kingdom..which is now…and which is coming…and which will always be.   Christ in you!   Christ in You.  ‘See it?’

Father..I thank you that you chose us to be partakers of your divine nature (2 Peter 1:4)…that we can have Christ live inside us ‘so that’ we can be formed into His image ‘so that’ we can have the ability to please you with our lives.   Help us to cherish the gift of Christ in us.  Empower us to ‘go’ and tell others.  Amen

Today’s Daily Light

My good friend and pastor David Niednagel shared this yesterday….

11-16-17  Ps 33:16-22  The size of the army
16         No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17         A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18         But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19         to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
20         We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
21         In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
22         May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.   NIV
Life brings to us many challenges. We try to be prepared, but we cannot control other people or all they can do that will affect us. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed with hopelessness and fear, and that is the signal to put out eyes on the Lord. He alone can do for us what armies, horses, money and power cannot do.
He is looking for those who fear Him more than they fear the events of life (2 Chron 16:9). Verse 18 makes the parallel, that “fearing Him” is the same thing as “hoping in his unfailing love”.  It is having such confidence in His reality and presence, that we dare not disappoint Him by acting as if people are more to be regarded than He is. His love and power are greater than that of any person.
:22 tell us we experience His love (hesed) to the degree that we consciously put our hope in Him.
Wonderful, powerful, fearful and loving Lord, thank You for all the times You have protected me and provided beyond anything I could have imagined, and that I am not facing great problems right now. And thank You for the reminder not to trust in the size of my army or resources, but to hope in You, and that to “fear You” is the answer to the fears of this world, and is the way to experience Your unfailing love. Help me consciously place my hope in You each day so that when the trials come I have roots that go deep in You and thereby experience a “peace that passes understanding”.   Amen!

Daily Light – Nov 16, 2017

Your daily goal:
Philippians 3:14  “press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Today’s Daily Light

Staying Focused on the Goal…

As ambassadors of the King..what is our daily goal?  The answer…be ‘doers’.

James 1:22,25 NIV…James wrote “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says…(and in verse 25..he continues the main point)…not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it…he will be blessed in what he does.”

Our production (output) in eternal kingdom work increases as we spend time in the ‘word’ and we abide in Jesus.  As we spend time in the word and with Jesus in prayer and meditation… the ‘more’ we ‘hear’ at the deep level wherein such ‘hearing’ influences our behavior and activity.   ‘Hearing’..motivates us to ‘do’.  We ‘do’ what the word and Jesus tell us to ‘do’.  We don’t just ‘do’.   We ‘hear’ and ‘do’.

The ‘more’ we practice ‘doing’…the ‘more’ we become obedient.   The more we become ‘obedient’…the more we will become like our King.  (I am not suggesting we can become God…I know you know that…one of the primary teachings of the New Testament is that Jesus Christ comes to live ‘inside’ us ‘so that’ He can change us from the inside out to reflect the ‘who’ of ‘who’ He is…’so that’ we can reflect and manifest His image…the goal being for the world to see Jesus ‘in’ us.)

So the simple ‘light’ today is to remember to stay focused on the goal…discipline yourself to spend time in the word and time with Jesus … ‘so that’…you will be more of a ‘doer’…’so that’ you will become more obedient…more consistently obedient…. ‘so that’ you will reflect the image of our King.

Hearer and Doer     Hearer and Doer    Hearer and Doer

Got it?   Now Do it!  😊   Amen
