As I learn to bow in my will in practice in this present life, I learn to experience true communion with God as ‘my’ Father. Real, experiential, factual, Communion with God requires bowing in the area of knowledge. But communion with God also requires bowing in my will in these areas we have studied over the past weeks. We are justified ( saved, reconciled) if we have accepted Christ as Savior. But present and ongoing communion with God requires continual bowing in both the intellect and the will. Without bowing in the intellect, in thinking after God; without acting upon the finished work of Christ in my present life; and without bowing in the will in practice, as the waves of the present life break over me, there is no sufficient communion with God. Without these things I am not in my place as the creature in a fallen and abnormal world. These three things are absolutely necessary if there is to be real and sufficient communion with God in the present life. In the proportion that these things are so, then a person-to-person relationship to God is in place. To the extent that these things are so in practice, I am not divided from myself and against myself. The Creator, as ‘my’ Father, will even now dry my tears and there will be joy. This is the meaning of true spirituality in my relationship to myself.
(For me, dh, through this study, I have come to see that I have much work to do in the area of ‘bowing in my will’. And I pray that God will give me help and power to live a life that increasingly demonstrates to Him that He is #1 in my life).
