Final Thoughts from …The Search For Significance, by R. McGee
More on Regeneration…
The process of experiencing your new self involves three steps:
- Laying aside the old self – rejecting the old self’s hold on you, which dictates how you think, feel, and act, and choosing to stop living in worldliness.
- Renewing your mind with God’s truth – understanding the truth of what Christ has accomplished for you and how that gives you a new capacity to live for Him.
- Putting on the new self – in your thoughts, words, actions, values, and relationships.
Express the truth of your new character. Your new self can now influence how you think, feel, and act.
This exercise will help you see that regeneration has already been completed in your life. You have been transformed into a new creature. You can declare those characteristics that describe your new nature to be true of you: I am deeply loved by God. I am completely forgiven by God. I am fully pleasing to God. I am totally acceptable to and accepted by God. I am a new creation – complete in Christ.
Regeneration gives you a new beginning. No matter what you have done in the past, God has washed away the guilt and set you apart for His own use in the present.
1st Corinthians 6:9-11 provides a glimpse of the type of individuals trapped in various immoral and wicked behavior that God can radically transform. You no longer have to think, feel, and act as false beliefs dictate. You are now free to present yourself to God as an instrument of righteousness.
1 Cor 6:9-11…Do you know the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? (And Paul provides a list of wicked behaviors/types) And ‘that’ is what some of you were (manifesting wicked unacceptable behavior). But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Friends… I pray this for you/us…….can you see it?…can you see your ‘new’ self?…can you see the new ‘you’?….deeply loved, completely forgiven, pleasing, totally acceptable to and accepted by our loving heavenly Father…because of what Jesus did for you/us on the cross. See it…then walk-it-out in your life..let it come out…that new creature…the light and love of Jesus that lives inside you. What you/we ‘were’..is no longer who we are ‘in’ Christ. See yourself as God sees you ‘in’ Christ…and transform and renew your mind ‘so that’ you can be light to the world. Amen
