The Reign of the King (Con’t)

Matthew 13:44-45   Jesus gave us a ‘double’ illustration ‘so that we would ‘doubly’ see and get His clear point:  (44) “The kingdom of heaven (the reign of the King) is like treasure hidden in a field.  When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.  (45)  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.  When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.”

So today, I ask myself…what is being a Christian mean to me?  And through the message and teaching of Jesus…the inventor of Christianity…. I must see that it is not only believing that He was the Savior…but more so to see that we are ‘saved’ so that we can come to find the ‘treasure’ in the field.  And then I ask myself the question…what kind of treasure…what kind of profound discovery must occur in me in order to find one treasure of so much value that I would sell or trade all of my others treasures for it?  Wow…

So today, I am not asking myself if I go to church, became a member of a church, prayed the prayer, or believe doctrines.  No.  I’m asking myself… ‘what is my basis for my understanding of what it means to be identified with Christ?  What does it mean?   And if I don’t wish to deceive myself..if I want to get it right…I have to go to the inventor…the author…the designer…and ask Him what question I should ask.   And when I read what He, Jesus, God-the Son, said…I come to one single question of value:    “have I really found Him..have I found Him as ‘that’ treasure…a treasure that has so much value to me that I am willing to let it all go to have Him…or…is he just marginal and everything in this here and now is central?

So when I look…and hear…what Jesus said …..I must come to see that salvation and conversion is to find Christ as that most valued treasure.

Jesus…I know you know I love You…but I also know you know I have a field of many little temporary treasures that I place value and joy in….and I give them so much of my time…I know you know I do see that you are THE treasure… and I know you know I know I need to love you above all else…to make you the treasure of my life….so I know you know I need your help ‘every day’ in helping me right my focus…right my priorities…so that you become that treasure above all treasures to me.     Amen
