Daily Light – Feb 5, 2018

Your daily goal:
Philippians 3:14  “press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
(Monday-Friday, from my morning quiet time, I will write a short thought for that day which I pray God will use to motivate you to ‘GO’ for that day.  Your objective is simple…to GO…to GO OUT and share the love of Christ with someone in that day….to GO and bear fruit …to be light to the world.)
Today’s Daily Light

2 Peter 1 3-11 NIV  Peter wrote        Confirming One’s Calling and Election (‘so that’ we may participate in the Divine Nature)

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters,[a] make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
When you logically sequence through the context of the message in the verses above…it says that God called us and elected us to salvation ‘so that’ we could participate in the ‘divine nature’ of Christ ‘so that’ we could be all that He calls us to be ‘for Him.’  In our new birth from old self to new redeemed self..through the indwelling of God’s Spirit….we take-on the nature of Christ ‘so that’ we can/should live a ‘Godly life’.
Some of the attributes and characteristics of the nature of Christ are:  goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, Godliness, mutual affection, and love.
And the Holy Spirit writing through Peter says we can possess and manifest these qualities in ‘increasing measure’… ‘so that’ we will not be ineffective and unproductive in our knowledge of Jesus.   And if we don’t make every effort…work at…increasing our possession and manifesting of the qualities…then we have bad eternal vision and are not ‘seeing’ that we are to commanded to ‘make every effort to confirm the gift of Grace that has been given to us…
Lord…help us in the beginning of this new week to allow your divine nature that lives inside us to motivate us to increasingly grow in our faith.   Please help us to keep our vision clear and aligned to Your will and way.   Empower us to increasingly seek the ‘good’..to do the ‘good’…help us to spend time in your word to add our knowledge of Your divine nature…of your way and will…so that we will produce eternal fruit and receive that rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Help us to make every effort to love You more so that we can love others more…which is what you call us to do.   Amen.
