Daily Light – Dec 5, 2017

Your daily goal:
Philippians 3:14  “press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
(Monday-Friday, from my morning quiet time, I will write a short thought for that day which I pray God will use to motivate you to ‘GO’ for that day.  Your objective is simple…to GO…to GO OUT and share the love of Christ with someone in that day….to GO and bear fruit …to be light to the world.)
Today’s Daily Light

We Share in His Glory

Exodus 33:18..Moses says to God “Show me your glory.”

Take time to read Exodus 33, 34….our focus for this context is ‘the Glory of the Lord’…but the build-up to this is where God has just told Moses to tell the people to pack their bags and get ready to move again…and this journey is moving you closer to the promised land…and to get there…you will go through the lands of other people who are not going to happy about you bringing a gazillion people and all your belongings and animals through their land and they will seek to destroy you….but I will send an angel to go ahead of you and drive out this ill tempered nations…because I won’t travel with you this time because you are a boneheaded group of folks (stiff necked)… because if I travel with you…I am afraid that I will get so frustrated with your rebellion and whining and crying and non trust of me…that I would probably wipe you out myself.    Yikes.   So Moses tells the people what God has said and they freak out and began to moan….Moses then appears to have a confidence and trust issue…and he wants some deeper, further assurances from God that God ‘for sure’ is going be with Moses in all that God is asking Moses to do as a leader.   He says… “okay God…I need some big time reassurances that you are with me…give me something of you that distinguishes me before the people that you are with me.   And Moses asks God to ‘show me your glory’.   And God has Moses go by himself up to the top of a nearby mountain…and God says (Exodus 33:19-23)…”I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I wil proclaim m name, the Lord, in your presence.  But you cannot see my face…I will have you stand in a cleft in a rock and I will cover you wih my hand until I have passed by.  Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”    And when you read over into chapter 34, starting at vs 29…Moses comes down from the mountain unaware that his face is glowing like a bright light bulb and he has to wear a veil over his head so that the people were not afraid of him.   Wow.

Yesterday….we wrote about the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain…where a cloud came down and Jesus became ‘glorious’…and this ‘light’ of God’s glory that accompanies His presence was apparent.   My friend/pastor wrote a note back to me yesterday with a wonderful summary wording of the work and life of Jesus/God…he wrote ‘ Glory to humiliation and back to Glory’.

Romans 8:18 Paul wrote “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

2 Corinthians 2…please read verses 7-18..please make time to try to read Exodus 33, 34 and 2 Corinthians 2:7-18…but for ‘time’ and brevity…I will only use 2 Cor 2:18 this morning…
Paul says “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, and are being transformed into his likeness and with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Wow.double wow!!    Lord…we can’t conceptualize the ‘all’ of who you are…what Your ‘goodness’ and ‘presence’ fully are.   And I know, that just like Moses, we can only see and experience ‘some’ of it while we are in this body.   But I am thankful that we live in this time of Grace..where Jesus, God the Son, has been given to us…and when we come to the mountain of the ‘Cross’ and put our faith in Jesus for our eternal salvation…you forgive us, and you give us your Spirit to live inside us ‘so that’ we can begin ‘now’ to share in your ‘glory’…and you do this ‘so that’ we have confidence that you will be with us in this journey through life…’so that’ we can ‘know’…and ‘so that’ we can continue to grow and be transformed into your likeness…’so that’ others can see the light of your likeness in us.   Thank you thay you put us in that eternal cleft in the rock..which is our Jesus.   Thank you, thank you!   Amen
