(Monday-Friday, from my morning quiet time, I will write a short thought for that day which I pray God will use to motivate you to ‘GO’ for that day. Your objective is simple…to GO…to GO OUT and share the love of Christ with someone in that day….to GO and bear fruit …to be light to the world.)
Today’s Daily Light
Luke 2:11 NIV Luke, the physician, and disciple of Jesus wrote “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.”
If there is anything that you and I need…and certainly what the world needs….it is a Savior.
The human race needs saving. It cannot save itself.
A simple read of the book of Romans clearly tells us that we, the human race, as a consequence of the ‘sin’ of Grandpa Adam and Grandma Eve..that ALL humans..all men/women…are born in a state of separation from God. Romans tells us that we are all guilty and we are all cut-off from God and we are in desperate need of saving. The central teaching of the Bible is that man is separated from God because of ‘Sin’ and that God has ‘given’ us a ‘Savior’ to reconcile the separation….to ‘save us FROM our ‘Sin’.
The Bible story is not a fairy tale. It is the opening act of the Greatest Story Ever Told…the story of why we are here…how we got here…and where it all ends up. Paul in Romans makes it so very clear that ‘we all inherit the penalty of Sin that was given to Adam and Eve. That penalty brought physical death…we all will die. We all physically die. And..we are born without the knowledge of God in our internal human spirit. We were cut off spiritually from God..now..and eternally.
Sooo…. God devised a plan to SAVE us. He designed a program…a system…a law…that ‘takes away’, cancels-out, pays off, wipes out, the death penalty. God’s system reconciles us back to God and gives us the gift of eternal life. God’s system…His program…is Jesus. God chose Jesus to be our Savior who would qualify to take our death penalty and pay our debt. God chose Jesus because He was the only person who would ever be born in human skin who could qualify to meet God’s requirements for ‘perfection’, for being sin-less, for being absolutely righteous…so that He/Jesus would become our Sin Bearer.
1 Peter 2:24 NIV Peter wrote “He himself (Jesus) bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”
Christmas is about the birth of our Savior. Kaboom!!! Huge…biggest…most wonderful thing that has ever happened to you and me. We have a Savior who came to give us eternal life. Christmas is the celebration of God giving us a Savior. And this Savior is Jesus. Amen
