Today’s Daily Light:

John 14:21, Jesus said “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me.  He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”

John 14:23, Jesus said “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.  He who does not love me will not obey my teaching.”

To me, this is one of the most revealing glimpses in all of scripture of the intention of the God-man relationship as to how God designed it to work:    Through our devotion and loving obedience (we do not get the option to separate ‘love’ and ‘obedience’..they are like tied together in all of what Jesus teaches as recorded by John)…so continuing…through our love/and/obedience, our love for Jesus as demonstrated by our obedience to his teaching….we get to experience heaven on earth…..Jesus said … if you love me and are obedient to my teaching…God…My Father…Creator of the universe…will love you…and He and I will both make our home with you.  Wow…what could be better than that!

Father…in my prayer this morning…I realize how pitiful I am in my obedience to all of the teachings of Jesus…the teachings that you gave him to share with us.  I get sooo distracted by the pull of the world and the things around me that are temporary and not eternal.   I pray that as we seek to spend more time with you through your Spirit and through the holy scriptures…that you give us the desire, the will, the ability to be more obedient to the teachings of Jesus.  Help us to spend more time in your word to discern your perfect will through the teachings of God-the-Son, Jesus, ‘so that’ we can be light to the lost, dying, and hurting world around us. 

Help us to Go in your name.
