The Entrance of Light Chapter 3, Part 4

Compass / Bio-Self and Spirit-Self

(Note to new readers:  Remember that in following a blog, the latest ‘post’ is generally a continuation from the prior posts of a series.   The opening page always begins with the latest post. It will help to start with the beginning of a series as to continuity of context.)

In coming to ‘how’ to calibrate our internal compass…we need to come to a deeper understanding of our internal mechanisms that function in our navigation system.   Let’s say that inside our human body lives two entities…we will call one of them ‘bio-self and the other one ‘spirit-self’.  (Bio short for biology, or biological).  Obviously ‘we’ as a person are ‘one’ being, one ‘self’.  I simply am using the reference of two entities to make my point.

Most people have the idea or concept that ‘self’, or ‘being’, is simply the person that they see in the mirror every day.  We have this ‘image’ of ourselves.   Most people are very aware of and have a strong sense of ‘self’ and of ‘being’ but they have never given much thought to where the conscious awareness of ‘self’ comes from.  Most people simply think that they are alive because they continue to breathe and think and they equate ‘self’ with the picture they have of their self-image which is a composite of their body and their personality.   People are aware of their physical biological self and they know they have a brain and a ‘mind’.  But the majority of people are not aware of the spirit-self which I defined in the prior post ‘The Default Program, Chapter 2, Part 2″.   We often hear someone say “he/she is a very spiritual person”.   By such inference they most typically are equating someone being ‘spiritual’ to someone holding religious views or behaving with regard to a religious view.   In referring to ‘spirit’ self I refer to our human spirit that resides in all humans as created and designed by God.

Most people do have some idea and concept of a spirit-realm or spirit world.  These ideas and concepts come primarily from what they have learned in their religion and/or culture.  Another source of ideas and concepts related to spirits or a spirit realm is the entertainment industry’s ideas and versions that are expressed in television shows and movies.  Think about how many popular t.v. shows and sci-fi movies have subject matter that involves spirits or a spirit realm. In the whole of life, it is a rather accepted idea that there are two spheres or realms of operation.  One is referred to as the ‘natural’ realm and the other is referred to as the ‘spiritual’ realm, often also referred to as the mystical realm.  The majority of people are only aware of, by personal experience, the natural realm.

The natural realm can be defined as what we can see, touch, taste, smell, hear, through our bodily senses.  We ‘think’ mostly in the abstract and natural realm.  We are most comfortable, like a fish in water, in the natural realm.  The spiritual realm can be defined as operating within the realm of what cannot be seen, but nonetheless ‘is’ an absolute realm and reality.  The spiritual realm is often referred to as the mystical realm or the realm of the supernatural.  The area or function inside our human body wherein we have awareness and perception of ‘being’ occurs to us in our ‘mind‘ as an influenced activity of our spirit.  When we think of the mind, we think of the internal place where we think and reason..we think of our operation center..and the majority of us relate the location of our mind as being within our human brain and our mind-function totally within the operation of organic brain tissue.   But let me ask you a question…and this question assumes the existence of an ‘after-life’ and the next plane we move to upon leaving the body, or crossing over…the question:  who or what is it that leaves the body and moves on after you die?…is it you?…is it partially you?….is it fully you?…your ‘self’?…your ‘being’?….all of your memories intact…??…how can this be ‘if’ you and your ‘mind’ are confined to the organic tissue of your physical brain????????  Ah-ha.  Now you are thinking.  “And the dust returns to the ground it came from (our physical body) and the spirit returns to God who gave it.”  Ecclesiastes, chapter 12, vs 7.

Continuing then, with the illustration of bio-self and spirit-self:   The ‘mind’ is a composite sum of the influence and function of bio-self and spirit-self.  The major function of the biological component of our mind is where we function within our genetic biology that is common to all humans and it is in this biological realm that we are not a lot different than ‘animals, the big difference in the natural realm-bio-arena would be human higher intelligence.’

The major function of the spiritual component, or our spiritual capacity is the function or operation of ‘consciousness’…this is where we are conscious and aware of ‘self’, of ‘being’ and within the ‘range’ of awareness functions that belong to the function of spirit.  (We defined this in the prior post, The Default Program, Chapter 2, Part 2). The human ‘spirit is ‘the’ grand human distinction.  In order for the internal navigational compass of a person to operate correctly and at full capacity, the mind must have input and be influenced by our spirit function.  Our ‘minds’ are a product of ‘input’.  God designed the human mind to receive ‘input’ from our spirit.  Our internal compass is a part of, connected to, our mind.  Our mind is full of ideas and views.  It is our ideas and views which control the calibration of our compass.  We thus navigate through life based on our ideas and views.

God designed us with a spirit capacity ‘so that’ we would be ‘connected to Him” ‘so that’ we could perceive and know Him…His way…His ideas…His views…His plan.  God is Spirit and He communicates to us through ‘spirit’.  His Spirit communicates with and through our internal spirit.  We were designed to have God’s spirit ‘influence’ our ideas and views so that we could navigate accurately and with purpose.  Our internal compass can never be accurately calibrated ‘if’ there is inadequate or infrequent or non-existing influence from God’s Spirit through our spirit to our mind.  The human mind without the influence of God’s Spirit is a mind that can be best described as confined/limited to the influence of the bio-man, or natural mind realm.  And unfortunately, this is the ‘mind-set’ of most humans.

One of my favorite writers from the bible is the Apostle Paul.  He wrote a couple of letters to some people who lived in a city called Corinth.  In his first letter, chapter two, verse 10, Paul says “God communicates (reveals) to us by His spirit”.  He goes on to say in the next few verses “The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.  For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except for the man’s spirit within him?  In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.  We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.  This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.  The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.”    I underlined some of the words in order to emphasize my main points:  God designed man with a spirit.  “It is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.” Job, chapter 32, vs 8.  “The Spirit (God’s Spirit) testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” Romans, chapter 3, vs 16.  “For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him.” I Corinthians, chapter 2, vs 11. “We know that we live in Him and He in us, because He has given us of his Spirit.” 1 John, chapter 4, vs 13. God designed our spirit with intention and purpose.  Foremost was ‘so that’ we could know God personally and have communication with Him.  God designed our ‘mind’ to be influenced by His spirit in order to shape our ideas and views so that we could calibrate or internal compass accurately so that we could navigate through life accurately and live life to the ‘full’.

As a result of the ‘fall of man’ as defined in “Defining the Darkness, Chapter 1, Parts 1-5”, all humans, mankind,  lost the ability to have their internal spirit connected to God’s spirit…thus all humans, all men, were left to navigate through life without the influence of God’s spirit at work in their human spirit.  The human spirit still contained limited basic operational features of functional ‘awareness’  and objective consciousness but in diminished capacity.  God allowed the spirit in man to contain a general revelation of the knowledge of God but God’s Spirit would no longer be merged with man’s Spirit. Thus the mind of man was left to be blinded by the influence of the sin nature, the ‘flesh’.    (Refer back to “Identifying and Understanding the Default Program”  Chapter 2, Part 3).
